Thrilling way to see ancient rugged beauty.
The Arkaroola Ridge-top tour was the highlight of our 3 days there. The ancient, rugged scenery was striking and the commentary from our tour driver, Russ, was informative and interesting. The roads were VERY steep and rocky so it was not for the faint hearted .. However this made the experience quite thrilling and funny at times too. Recommend highly.
Arkaroola is awesome
This trip was incredible in a number of ways. Macca our tour guide was the best. So helpful and knowledgeable with the best sense of humour. He is very experienced in 4wheel driving on the tracks through the most rugged and incredible scenery imaginable. The geological terrain is fascinating along with the indigenous, white and family history. Totally recommend a visit to Arkaroola and do the Ridge Top Tour. You will not be disappointed I promise.

42km of unique,amazing adventure.
We climbed up the little ladder into the back of the open sided Land Cruiser tray, sat on the bench and buckled up. Macca was our guide and driver, and he started the drive with a laugh and fabulous commentary, and 4 and a half hours later, he finished the same way. The trek takes you 21 kilometres into the heart and soul of the remarkable Arkaroola wilderness reserve. There is nothing like it on the planet. The geological history and formations alone are unique in the world. The history of the acquisition and development of the property, the commitment of owner Reg Sprigg and his support from mentor Sir Douglas Mawson , exploration by American company Exoil for uranium , survival and regrowth after severe drought are all part of the exploration included in this phenomenal experience. The inclines and declines are hair raising in places, however the view from the top of Splitters and Mt Painter are mind blowingly surreal. One of the must do's if you really want to SEE the Northern Flinders Ranges.
