A natural and free attraction just outside of Mackay, Finch Hatton Gorge is a popular thing to do for both locals and tourists alike. Ideal on a hot summer day, Finch Hatton Gorge offers incredible bush walking through the luscious Eungella National Park, making the journey to the gorge a highlight in and of itself. Traversing the beautiful rainforest for 1.6 kilometres to reach Araluen Waterfall, the trail begins at Finch Hatton picnic area.
One of the most popular walking trails and swimming spots in the region, once you've reached the rock pools you can jump into the fresh water to cool off. The adventure doesn't stop there as the track travels deeper into the rainforest to reach the Wheel of Fire Cascades; another popular swimming hole. Hikers should take note, as the second leg of this trail is rather challenging with uphill climbs and stairs, however the views are worth the trouble
Visitors are advised to stay out of the water following heavy rainfall in the region for safety regions.
