Hard Times Mine Underground Tour in Mount Isa Queensland.
A very extensive and interesting tour, tour guide a retired local who had worked in the mines for 50+ years. His knowledge of the equipment and mining kept everyone interested (including the kids) for the 3 hour tour. A well organised and run tour, highly recommended
Informative and enjoyable underground experience..
Enjoyable and informative experience going underground with a former and knowledgeable miner as guide, who related his experiences and stories during the tour. Gumboots, coveralls and the helmet with a light were definitely required to enjoy the hands-on experiences.
What you can expect
Capture the spirit of the Queensland Outback with a visit to the Isa Experience Heritage Display. Do not miss out on visiting this intriguing and entertaining centre that narrates the history of mining with life in the Australian Outback. Mt Isa is also a culturally diverse region and through interactive displays, you can garner a sense of early Australia and the perspectives of Indigenous and Anglo Saxon residents.
Wander through the larger than life exhibits including the Outback Park with picnic areas and lush lawns, the Rodeo Hall of Fame, Mining Exhibits with real-life machinery and the Outback Gems featuring a private collection of crystals and rock formations donated to the centre. The Isa Experience Heritage Display is open to the public, 7 days a week from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm.

- Take a seat in the 50 seat Mount Isa Mines Theatrette, featuring a film about the history of the Mount Isa region, including footage of early pioneering times
- Wander through the Outback Park
- View Allan's Outback Gem's Collection
- Learn more about the history of the biggest rodeo in the southern hemisphere – the Mount Isa Mines Rodeo at the Rodeo Hall of Fame
- 8:30am – 4:30pm daily for self-guided access
- 2 hours approximately in duration

Very knowledgeable presentation from an old-time miner
The trip down into the mine was very real. We got to be hands-on with a drill to set a blast. We saw heavy equipment in operation and felt a simulated blasting of the rock wall. This mine is still in operation and pulling our mineral-rich ore and these rock samples were so heavy! Highly recommended!
