Gold class didn’t live up to expectations, a very long day.

Our coach arrived late just as the train was boarding, so we missed out on the meet & greet drinks & didn’t get our binoculars. Booked Gold Class & I was very disappointed that we were facing backwards, also that we had no window just a wall between windows which blocked our view (a lot). I know someone has to face backwards but perhaps you could be able to pay a little more for a forward facing seat (I know I definitely would). Apart from that the train trip was enjoyable & the service was great, as was the food served & the bubbles offered. It was a very wet day & 4 hours in Kuranda was pretty boring & far too long. We did visit the bird sanctuary, which was really enjoyable but much smaller than I thought it would be (inn& out in under 20 mins). As we’d eaten on the train, we weren’t hungry enough for lunch, the markets were tacky (a bit like Nimbin) so we more or less twiddled our thumbs to kill time for hours in the rain until we could get the sky rail back. We enjoyed this, even though half way through it became too cloudy to see anything at all. We also found out too late, that we could have gone on the sky rail much earlier than our allotted time & got off & explored more at the 2 stops. This was a shame as the day would have been so much better. All in all it was a very long day & it could have been better without the 4 hour stop over in boring Kuranda!
