Movie fans of ‘The Lord of the Rings’ and ‘The Hobbit’ should not miss this day tour from Auckland. Spend the day travelling to the magical movie set of ‘middle earth’ at Hobbiton. The tour begins at 7am with hotel pickups available from Auckland city before travelling south over the Bombay Hills to the Waikato region. The scenic drive will travel through rich farmland and lush green hills to Shire’s Rest where the movie set is located. Along the way listen to fascinating commentary about the areas you visit and interesting insights into the making of the movies. The Hobbiton movie set is the largest “green set” in the world and the only part that remains in New Zealand. When you arrive at Shire’s Rest, your tour guide will take you on a walk through the set so you can witness the magic of movies for yourself. Throughout the tour, you will see the hobbit holes, the Mill and double arch bridge and the party tree. You will also have the opportunity to take photos at Bilbo’s house which overlooks the whole movie set with picturesque green hills in the distance.
A complimentary ale, cider or ginger beer is provided on the conclusion of the tour. Before returning to Auckland, a delicious buffet lunch is included before you return back to Auckland. - A full day guided tour of the largest green set in the world, "Middle-earth" from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies departing Auckland
- Commentary on route to "Middle-earth" from a knowledgeable guide, detailing background facts to the development of the film and the local history
- You will wittness 44 hobbit holes, the Mill, double arch bridge and the party tree all while being surrounded by lush green hills
- Stop for a photo at the gate to Bilbo’s house, “Bag End”, which offers a look out over the whole set
- Visit Green Dragon Inn and enjoy a ale, cider or ginger beer and work up an appetite for lunch
- The tour concludes with a sumptuous buffet lunch fit for a Hobbit before heading back to Auckland
- Pick up and drop off to inner city Auckland accommodation
