What you can expect
Embark on an unforgettable two-hour and 30-minute journey through the pristine, restored forests of the Otago Peninsula. Learn from expert nature and wildlife guides and gear up with the provided rain jackets and professional binoculars to experience the serene sounds of a trail-side stream and the vibrant birdlife that fills the air. Guided by knowledgeable rangers, you'll delve into the rich history of New Zealand's forests and discover the region's dedicated habitat restoration.
Start your adventure by learning about the extraordinary, yellow-eyed penguin, one of the rarest penguins in the world. Afterwards, you'll enjoy a short bus trip to the OPERA nature reserve, where an expert guide will take you on a guided walk of approximately three kilometres. On your walk, the rangers will share knowledge of New Zealand flora and fauna as you are immersed in the sights, sounds, and smells of nature, walk through the bush track, and visit the nature reserve to have the chance to view marine and coastal wildlife.
As you navigate through lush greenery, keep an eye out for the incredible wildlife, including yellow-eyed and little penguins, fur seals, sea lions, and a variety of native birds. Conclude your visit with a tranquil stroll through the reserve, where nature surrounds you at every turn.

- Guests must be able to walk up to three kilometres across both steep and uneven terrain
- There are no toilets available within the reserve or during the hike
- Guests with claustrophobia may experience discomfort as the tour passes through narrow trench observation systems
- The experience provider cannot guarantee the spotting of wildlife but will aim to give guests the best possible experience
