First class tour run by the local traditional owners of the Katherine region. The tour guide a young First Nations man from the Katherine, made the so enjoyable, his knowledge of the gorge and its importance to the traditional owners was amazing. He shared his culture throughout the cruise. Highly recommended.
What you can expect
Starting at the Gorge Entrance, journey through the first gorge before disembarking on a walk of 400m to the second gorge (and vice versa on your way back).
Throughout the tour, you will learn about Indigenous Culture, history of the region, flora, fauna and much more!
Nitmiluk National (Katherine) Gorge boasts an impressive 13 gorges made of ancient sandstone. Book this two-hour Katherine Gorge cruise to uncover the history and culture of Nitmiluk and witness the first two gorges.
Knowledgeable local guides love nothing more than showcasing Katherine Gorge to visitors including providing onboard commentary about the native flora, fauna, wildlife and Dreamtime stories of the Indigenous cultures as you glide across the serene waterways. Witness breathtaking views of ancient limestone rock formations as far as the eye can see.

- This experience is two hours in duration
- Tours depart at 9am, 11am and 2pm daily all year round
- Additional departures may be available during peak season
- This experience is 2 hours in duration
- We kindly request that all guests be at the boat ramp at least 20 minutes prior to tour departure time.
- It is recommended to bring a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, drinking water and comfortable shoes for walking.
- There are steps and walks of approximately 400m each way. Those with mobility issues are welcome to stay at the crossover; otherwise we do not recommend participating on this tour. There are also about 70 stairs on the path in total and those sections all have handrails.
- Walking distance is Min 800m
- We kindly request that all guests be at the boat ramp at least 20 minutes prior to tour departure time.
- There is a walk of 400m between the gorges. This is made up of stairs (with handrails) and uneven surfaces. It is advisable to wear comfortable footwear that are suitable for walking at the crossover area.
- This tour is not suitable for guests with mobility issues.
- Drinking water and toilet facilities are available on board.
- Due to limited car parking at the boat ramp, we are encouraging guests to park at the Visitor Centre car park and take a short 10-15 minutes' walk to the boat jetty.
- Tour subject to river levels (particularly during Dec – Mar)
- During the Tropical Summer months (Dec - Mar), tour structures may be required to accommodate fluctuating river conditions. For travel during this period, it is recommend to re-confirm with the experience provider the day prior to departure

- More than forty-eight (48) hours prior to departure: FULL REFUND
- Between forty-eight (48) & twenty-four (24) hours prior to departure: 50% REFUND
