What you can expect

Journey beneath kunanyi/Mount Wellington to the Cascades Female Factory Historic Site, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed landmark in Hobart and Australia's most significant place dedicated to female convicts. General admission gives you access to the heritage displays, while a self-guided audio experience, using your own headphones or podcast player, lets you soak up the site at your own pace. Reveal the long-hidden stories of thousands of women and children once imprisoned within its walls.

Walk past moving exhibits, browse the Research Room for clues to your own family history and pause at the poignant Baby Name Wall, a tribute to the babies who didn't survive. It's a meaningful and worthwhile way to connect with the courage and grit of these women, offering a deeper understanding of Tasmania's convict past for history lovers, locals and travellers alike.
