This special night tour of New Zealand's Zealandia is one of the best places to see kiwi in the wild in all of NZ! A truly unique experience, you'll join your friendly guide for a torchlit walk through Zealandia's amazing Sanctuary Valley as it comes alive under the cover of nightfall - many of the cutest species of New Zealand are nocturnal, so this is the time to see them at their most active.
The sights - kiwi rummaging around the forest, tuatara on the hunt for a meal, shimmering glow worms, kākā parrots settling into their roost - combine with the sounds of the New Zealand forest to make for a magical experience great for both adults and kids alike. - Tour start times vary throughout the year depending on sunset, below is a rough guide to the start times of the tours to be confirmed directly by the provider at the time of booking:
- January: starts between 8.15 - 8.30pm
- February: starts between 7.45 - 8.15pm
- March: starts between 6.30 - 7.30pm
- April: starts between 4:45 - 5.15pm (weekends) - 7.00pm (weekdays)
- May: starts between 4.30 - 5.00pm (weekends) and 7pm (weekdays)
- June: starts at 4.30pm (weekends), 7pm (weekdays)
- July: starts between 4.30 - 4.45pm (weekends), 7pm (weekdays)
- August: starts between 5.00 - 5.30pm (weekends), 7pm (weekdays)
- September: starts between 5.30 - 7pm
- October: starts between 7.00 - 7.30pm
- November: starts between 7.45 - 8.15pm
- December: starts between 8.15 - 8.30pm
- The tour takes approximately 2.5 hours
- Children must be 12 years and over to experience the Zealandia by Night Tour
- There is a cafe on-site where food can be purchased as well as Halal options
- Departure times will vary depending on the time of year and time of sunset so prior to taking part in your Night Tour we suggest re-confirming the time
