I don’t really like bugs (they scare me), so doing a night tour in the botanic garden was not something I initially wanted to try but I am so glad I did! Bridgette demonstrated the technical knowledge that made each bug and mammal so interesting that I didn’t mind getting up close to them. It was such a great tour observing these insects (and more) in their habitat and learning more about them. Despite the rain, we managed to see quite a few insects as well as a bandicoot and more mammals! I managed to get so many good photos and videos so I’m very impressed with this tour and highly recommend it - especially those who may be scared of bugs as this will change your mind about them! Thanks Bridgette!
In all honesty of all of the total 26 tours or so I have taken in Cairns since I have been in Australia, this ranks as easily as one of the top two.
Even though distance-wise it's short, the tour brought some of the greatest viewing of animal diversity from the rainforest environment I have ever seen. Bridgette is very knowledgeable about entomology and amphibiology with an exceptional recollection of frog, insect, and spider genera. As a fan of arachnids, I was absolutely blown away. In two hours, I had seen additional species from the region that in my other jungle excursions never came across. Although part of it comes down to luck, Bridgette and the lifetime members of her club provided their excellent observational skills to spot some absolute classics, even after it had rained basically the whole day. The experience is more contemplative with less narration than other tours to help not spook the animals, but Bridgette or her club members happily answer questions about ID and biology for local animals. Truly worthy of 5 stars. My only criticism, honestly, would that I wish the tour and distance were even longer to see more habitats. A must do for animal-fans in Cairns. Bring a water bottle though and a head torch (but she'll had it out if you don't have one).
Step into a hidden world on a guided walking tour through the Cairns Botanic Gardens. Your expert guide will lead you to special “bug-hubs” that reveal some of the rainforest’s most elusive residents, including tiny creatures that even locals rarely get to see. From the Northern Jewel, Australia’s very first spider, to the majestic Cairns Birdwing, the country’s largest butterfly, every walk is full of unique encounters. You’ll also spot an abundance of insects, fungi, and spider webs that showcase the rainforest’s incredible biodiversity.
Each tour is personalised and adapted to the seasons, meaning no two walks are ever the same. Along the way, you’ll enjoy the chance to photograph these animals in their natural habitat, capturing close-up shots. With a small group size, expert guidance, and two hours of time to stop and observe, this adventure is perfect for nature lovers and photographers who want to uncover the rainforest’s best-kept secrets.
Our family (2 parents, 2 kids & 2 seniors) all had a wonderful experience with Bridgette on this tour.

We had a really fun night. I was happy to use my iPhone for photos to improve my skills but you can hire cameras or just enjoy the walk.
We had a really fun night. I was happy to use my iPhone for photos to improve my skills but you can hire cameras or just enjoy the walk. Bridgette was very knowledgeable. Opened my eyes to a whole new world at night. I’d recommend this to anyone, even if you’re not into bugs or photography you might be afterwards and you’ll have fun none the less. It was a small group (4) which was a nice change from some of the bigger tours you can do. Also a lot cooler at night. A supine experience. Great value for money. I’ll go again on my next trip for sure.
Bridgette is an expert at finding a great variety of bugs and very knowledgeable about them.
Bridgette is an expert at finding a great variety of bugs and very knowledgeable about them. She is also very helpful in assisting and teaching macro photography. I loved both the day tour and the night walk.
